Cloud Computing and linode alternatives to a normal dedicated machines

One of the dedicated servers's harddrive I maintain has failed.
This alone has created many, many problems! It's serious stuff
since this server is the main mail server and primary DNS.
I still am unsure what is gonna happen. The dedicated server provider
responsible for the server Valueweb 's
services complete suck! The situation became even more complex with
the fact that valueweb has been bough by hostway.com
The old server which hardrive has failed needs replacement and is creating
serious problems within the company, however the management solution
required for giving a go to the operation of replacement was postponing
every time I tried to raise the question of the need for server replacement.
Well today the worst has happened. I was woken up by my gsm beepings just
to realize there are 20 smses notifying me that the server is inaccessible.
That happened around 5:30 in the morning! Shit what a miserable life, I only
slept for a couple of hours since I went to bed in 2 o'clock. I tried multiple
times to request reboots of the server all of which doesn't bringed the system
back. That wasn't fun really. Right after that I tried to raise a technical support request asking to check the server's hardware. I never received any responce from valueweb on my
mail to inform me about the status of my request as usual!
Damned valueweb, this stupid bastards ARGHH!. At 9:30 our project manager ringed to ask what's wrong with the mails.
Well what might it be, a hardware crash.
She had to call to America where the colocation resides, and ask them to move on with the hardware test, otherwise valueweb won't move their finger.
Of course I was right the system hard drive was broken. And required replacement, after few calls from the office and my quick suggestion to change all
clients smtp and pop3 server to point to the backup server which thanks God at least worked, they did so (Thanks God).
I took the fast decision to come to the office in Varna since I had to talk with the tech support
in Florida and help out to some of the clients to correctly setup the new host in their Thunderbirds
and Outlooks. Yes here you can see how they use me as a tech support as well.
Many websites are down currently, I have spoken a couple of times with Florida's tech support which were quite arrogant to me.
Never ever use valueweb or hostway as a dedicated server provider seriously this guys are bastards!
My idea was to replace the old server with a new one with a better hardware since it's already broken, however the company CEO was not keen on the idea again trying to save some money!
You can understand what kind of a "good"CEO he is, since he tries to cut out costs from the hardware, that way guaranteeing again future problems.
He suggested to me to try to migrate to Amazon EC2 (Cloud Computing).
Something impossible since we have specific stuff running on the server
I had to research and assure myself that this Cloud Computing is a bulky shit ass just like I thought well it's good for stuff like facebook, however in our situation it's impossible. You can't simply migrate all the stuff to cloud computing clapping with a magic stick.
In the meantime of researching on the topic I found something inreresting called check out linode here .
As a matter of fact I think it's a better solution for plain linux install than Debian. Just to complete the post I have to say cloud computing is interesting but it doesn't stand the same ground as a normal linux install.
A brief funny introduction of Cloud Computing can be seen in youtube's cloud computing explained . What wikipedia says about Cloud Computing is a nice beginning introduction as well.
Cloud Computing is the latest hype out there is certanly future in Cloud Computing even though I don't see it to be ready for the masses, yet.
I have to note that it seems the Linux powered Cloud computing options ran a Linux Xen, kernel. I haven't tested Xen recently but the last time I and a colleague of mine did (2 years ago)
,it seemed back then will be completed to be 100% compliant with the normal linux kernels in the coming 5 years.
However the matter is quite interesting and I have to investigate further in it soon.
Now we decided to solve the situation by purchasing a newer dedicated server. The stupid asses from Hostaway need 24 hours to bring the machine up, you can imagine how insane is that.
In the best case all stuff on the old server would be up and running in the coming 48 hours or even more... ghah

Time Changer an interesting Christian Movie (In the Protestant tradition)

Today I've watched a nice American Christian movie in the protestant christians tradition. The movie is called Time changer
The story progresses with a couple of guys in an american bible seminary in the 19th century.
One of the professors is eager to publish a new book on morals, which doesn't stress
on our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ alone. One of his fellow colleagues is against,
stressing the importance of giving credit to Jesus Christ (the son of God and our Saviour),
for teaching us the true way of godliness. The two guys can't come into a mutual agreement
about the issue. The writer of the new book couldn't get the blessing of the seminary,
which would make the book inferior in the distant 19th century. Therefore the
author of the book strives to receive the acceptance of his colleagues. After failing
he is ready to do everything even if it contradicts the teachings presented in the bible.
The professor unwishful to endeavor the new book does explain to the professor author of the
book his motives for showing clear the relation between the Lord Jesus and the teaching of
morals presented in the Holy Bible. It seems this guy had the oportunity to travel in the
future through a gadgy machine invented by his father who has already departured.
This professor had the oportunity to witness what is the fruit of skipping to associate Christ as being the
one stressing on the importance of keeping God's moral standards in the 21st century.
The professor decides that the only way to convince his fellow colleague author of the new
book is to sent him right into the future and let him witness why teaching of morality
without Christ is pernicious. Finally after witnessing all the insanity and ungodliness created
in man's life as a consequence of not sticking to our lord's teaching, while traveling back
to his own time through the time machine the author of the new book rewrites his book to make
it be in accordance with the scriptures. The movie ends with one of the professors testing the machine
trying to send the holy bible as far as he could in the future. However he cannot send it to 2070,
then he tries a 2060, no luck as well etc.. A good end since it points how close we are to the Second Coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!

Fishes likes Coca Cola & Coffee & How to make your Apache look shiny :)

Today Static (a friend mine called me) and we were out to dsk bank, where I had to collect
a sheet containing an 4 bit identity code to confirm the creation of my paypal account.
After picking up the letter we went to Static's place and he helped me to change
my Apache Directory Listing default layout with a nice designed layout.
To to achieve that all needed to be done is to change two files content:
README.html and
HEADER.html

It's also necessery to have in your Apache main configuration file the following:
ReadmeName /README.html
HeaderName /HEADER.html

The outcome of what static showed could be seen in the following directory listing:
sample directory listing with nice layout . After we completed this design task, we went to the city park and we gave some drinks to the fishes in the lake. The fish seems like they really liked the coffein containing drinks and gathered together on a big heaps drinking :). Static decided to test if the fishes like to eat chewing-gums and throw some chewing-gums in the waters. The fish seems to like it as well and started eating the gum fiercely :)

Download Bulgarian Orthodox Bible in various file formats

I've came to the conclusion that there is no easily to find
bulgarian orthodox bible for download.
Thus after spending an hour Googling for Bulgarian Orthodox bible
I finally found one. The one I found was in DOC and I thought
that it would be nice if the Bulgarian Orthodox Bible is available
for download in various formats for users convenience.
For that reason I've converted the bulgarian orthodox bible I found
to a few of the most famous desktop reading formats out there and
stored it on my machine. I've also built a small website through
which The Bulgarian Orthodox
Bible can be downloaded
. Currently the website offers a
bulgarian orthodox available for download in (DOC, ODT, TXT, PDF)
formats, as well as the same formats are prepared for download in RAR
archive. I truly hope this would be useful to the fellow orthodox
bulgarian brothers and sisters.

A Church Service in Balgareevo and the pilgrimage of the Holy Cross

Today was a blessed day, Praise the Lord! The day started with a holy Liturgy in the Church Holy Trinity in my hometown. A brother in Christ and a friend of mine invited me to join him and his girlfriend for a pilgrimage journey to Balgareevo, a village in Bulgaria situated 6 km. away from Varna. What made this place so special was the blessing to worship a small particle a Holy remnant of the Cross on which our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ was crucified. Besides that in the Church st. Archangel Michael in Balgareevo some other relics of a saints were exhibited for veneration. Thanks God, we have traveled safely to Balgareevo and back with Ceco's car. We were accompanied by a cute old lady who made the travel time quite enjoyable singing old Romanian songs and telling us some of her nice poems. She also blessed us numerous times throughout the trip and expressed her deep gratitude that we took her for the pilgrimage. The pilgrimage was wonderful, the cross itself to which the particle of the Holy Remnanant of our Saviour's Cross was embeded was filled in with huge spiritual power and joy. After we worshipped the holy relics and the our Lord's cross. We followed the priest who had triumphantly went from the church wherein we were to the cloister where a lot of delicious food was awaiting us. The metropolitans who were present (Metropolitan Ilarion and Metropolitan Kiril) with the other priests present served a consecation service and blessed the food. After which we again honored the holy cross to which the remnant of our Lord's cross was attached and had a great time eating the blessed food. We spend like 2 hours in which we also had the pleasure to meet the main priest who is responsible for Balgareevo's church. He told us a few of his ingights he gathered as interpretations of Revelations of the Holy Bible. And how we the Orthodox Christians should be careful in what kind of food we eat, he stressed out that a lot of the food we devour nowdays is spiritually contaminated and how does the devil exercise control over us through the control he is granted by the many non-natural home-grown food and drinks we consume daily. Even though this teaching is not officially recognized by the orthodox church, he probably has some point about it, and there is certain truth in that priest sayings. However it's to everybody to decide. Later on with God's help we traveled back to Dobrich and I went to see my grandma after which I went to my aunt Zlatina to configure their new wireless router as well as to fix her two notebooks running Ubuntu Linux. The two Linuxes had some annyoing problems with auto-connection to the wireless networks, on one of the two machines the connetion problems were probably a consequence of the malfunction of the gnome-keyring daemon. On the other one the system had some weird problems with remembering the passphrase for the TPK-PSK WPA2 2 wireless connction. Another really weird problem in Ubuntu on the amd64 Ubuntu 9.04 on their Toshiba L300 PLSBGE laptop was that randomly the screen size changed. Sometimes displaying the default resolution in a Fullscreen sometimes narrowing the screen? I guess a bug probably in the 64 bit release of Ubuntu). The day as I said earlier was quite dynamic, I met a friend of mine for a chat mainly discussing about faith issues. Laters I went out to see the New Rock Club they which was recently opened here in (Dobrich). I also had a discussion with another friend concerning the desperating situation in which we oftenly fell and how partly this is caused by the country politics and social system.

Unbutu interpid amd64 Firefox not opening .torrent files by default bug and how to fix ubuntu to open .torrent files by default

Yesterday I've been to my cousin to whom I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 a week ago.
She was not happy that by default Ubuntu doesn't handle the .torrent file extension by default.
After 20 minutes of googling I finally found the solution.
Here is how to workaround the .torrent not opening problem:
Open your Firefix and go to:
Edit -> Preferences -> Applications.
There in the search field type: "torrent".
Then follow the menu dialogs to set your preferred torrent client
to use or either choose if you'd like the default behaviour of
the torrent client to download the file as a default behaviour
or alternatively prompt you asking where to save the torrent.
You can also control there how to handle other file extensions.
I have to add that for some reason I'm not sure it might be the ISP involved, but when transmission was used to download files, transmisson had some problems starting the torrent download. Changing it to the default torrent client in gnome did resolved this issue as well.

Redirect a website after moving it from one server to another in a Google friendly way

I had the task to physically move a website from one host to another while doing it the best SEO way possible.
Here is how I did it:
I used mod_rewrite and the following .htaccess rules like:
redirect 301 /index.html http://new-location.com/index.html
redirect 301 /somepage.html http://new-location.com/somathing.html
From Search Engine point of view it is best to create a custom redirect for every webpage available on the old location of the website to the new one.

Windows Daemontools like Linux GUI software or How to mount ISO files in Linux and BSD

Ever wondered if Linux allows you to open ISO's with a nice graphic interface like the famous Daemontools on Windows. Cause I did and I found the software that enables you to do so:
First and most popular option especially for Gnome users is:
1. Acetoneiso , it's really famous between mainly Ubuntu users
2. KDE users might be interesting into The kiso program 3. Another program I found being used among Ubuntu users is called gmountiso.
Still if you're mostly a console guy like I am and want to mount your iso into some directory on Linux here is how:
# mkdir /mnt/disk
# mount -o loop disk1.iso /mnt/disk

Now your iso is mounted in /mnt/disk.

The way to mount an iso file in FreeBSD is a bit different.
Here is how to do it in FreeBSD:
# mdconfig -a -t vnode -f /path/to/image.iso -u 1
# mount -t cd9660 /dev/md1 /mnt/cdrom
Now your iso stays mounted in /mnt/cdrom
In case you'd like to unmount it, you need to execute:
# mount -u /mnt/cdrom
# mdconfig -d -u 1

On FreeBSD there is one more oddity:
For instance if you'd like to mount some Windows FAT filesystem you need or alternatively an MSDOS file system, here is how:
# vnconfig /dev/vn0c ./image.iso
# mount -t msdos /dev/vn0c /cdrom

The last method to mount your iso is said to be compatible with all type of filesystems, so you might be a good idea to use it always

Make your Debian Linux and FreeBSD terminal / console display daily verse from KJV Bible

Since I am a Christian and I want to daily be in touch with the Holy Scriptures and I am most
of the time spending on my Linux system. I have came to the conclusion that it's beneficial to
have a daily bible displaying everytime after I login in console or terminal in X.
Therefore I thought it might be helpful to somebody out there who would wish to have the same
on his Linux / FreeBSD machine.
Here is how to set bible quote to appear everytime after login in Debian Linux:
First install the verse program through:
# apt-get install verse
Next if you want to make the verse display global for the system put
if [ -f /usr/bin/verse ]; then
echo
/usr/bin/verse
fi
in /etc/bash.bashrc
On the other hand if you'd like to make it local for your account or a set number of accounts on your system append
if [ -f /usr/bin/verse ]; then
echo
/usr/bin/verse
fi

to your ~/.bashrc as well as to the home directories of the users you'd like to display a bible verse.
If you decide to do that be aware that your login via sftp won't work anymore.
Every time you attempt to login you'll experience the error message:
"Received message too long". However that ain't a real problem for me
since I use my system as a desktop and don't sftp or ssh remotely to it or if I
do it's really often in that cases to enable my sftp logins again I temporary
comment the above code from all the files where I have it.
On FreeBSD the same is achieved a bit differently.
Here is how to install it in FreeBSD:
First you need to install it as a fortune module, because in FreeBSD bible quotes
are only available via the good old fortune program:
cd /usr/ports/misc/fortune-mod-bible;
make install clean

Next open:
the /etc/profile file and insert in the end of it:

echo
/usr/games/fortune /usr/local/share/games/fortune/bible
After your next login your FreeBSD should be quoting a bible
quotation after each and every login. What is different with
Debian's verse program is that verse keeps displaying one exact
quote of the bible during every login during the whole day,
where in FreeBSD the fortune-mod-bible does visualize a different
bible quote during every next login.

Orthodox New Testament Bible & Psalms (Psalter) translated from Greek

In relation with some of my previous posts earlier. I looked for an Orthodox version of the Bible in English. My instant search for that was stimulated because I suspect that many of the protestant bibles are not accurate enough.
For instance many words meanings are translated to be in accordance with some traditional protastant popular teachings. This of course if happens too often could sometimes even change whole sentence meanings.
All I can find so far is a translation of the Orthodox New Testament & The Psalms
from Greek. Originally they reside on on the following Eastern Orthodox website . For some convenience I've mirrored both the Orthodox New Testament & The Psalms.
They can be downloeded:
1. The Orthodox New Testament Septuagint translation from greek
2. As well as the The Psalter
. A version of the Bulgarian Orthodox Bible is located here . Some more interesting articles concerning orthodoxy are located on the orthodox study bible website
. That's mostly what I can find as an orthodox bible. If I find something more I'll blog it. By the way today I red about St. Justin the Martyr. Who used to be a phisopher in the tradition of Sacrates and Heraclites and converted to Christianity and accepted martyrdom for Christ in the distant 165 A.D.Read further for this great Saint and early christian apologist here

What Protestant Christianity is Wrong about, Protestant wrong ideas about Orthodox Christianity and some protestant heretical and inaccurate beliefs and practices

Yesterday I was out with some friends including some christians adhering to the methodist belief
as well as generally mostly protestant christian beliefs. For good or bad a severe arguing emerged between me and a friend of mine whose explanation on some questions concerning the christian faith
as well as discussions about the seperation of man and woman in the Orthodox Church. Something I don't really see as division. A Christian friend of mine who is attending a methodist protestant Church started to give explanations for the reason of the so called separation rathar based on the wrong understanding (from orthodox perspective) of faith issues and from protestant doctrinal point of view.
Even though I do listen to a lot of Protestant Christian Rock/Metal and I like the phenomenon of this
attempt for creating a Godly music surrounded by all this groups who openly do confess satanism and occultims, I'm more and more convinced that the protestant christian understanding on many of the matters of faith are erroneous. I still respect all them highly since they do strive to lead God pleasing life, however their delusion on some matters of faith should be marked up.

Here are some of the few major things which I see as a difference between Orthodox believing christians and protestant christian believers with the hope that this would be helpful for somebody out there looking for real answers on the true christian faith

The dangers of Protestanism and protestant denominations (A faith mixtured with lies and errors) & The Difference Between
Orthodox Christian beliefs and Protestanism.
--------------------------------------------
Date: 26.09.2009
Author: hip0 (a.k.a. Georgi Georgiev)

1. Protestant and their denominations:
- Methodists
- Advents
- many, many other denominations.

* Reject the orthodox Church as the descendant of the One Holy apostolic Christian church, established by the
apostles.

* Reject the authority of many of the teachings of the Orthodox Church including the teaching of the
Tradition of the Holy Fathers in the Church and the Teachings of the Holy Church Fathers

* Reject the supremacy of the Holy Mother of God (Mother Mary) in the spiritual hierarchy of the God created
beings! (Something of the most fundamental things believed in the Orthodox Church).

* Accept one and only authority of the bible, in which everybody freely could interpret the Holy Scriptures,
(there are some general framework in which most of the canonical so to say protestant do hold up). Even
though the variation of the understanding varies greatly.

* Reject our appeals to the Holy Saints and the Holy Theotokos (Mother Mary) for intercession in front of
God for us the sinners.

* Reject the order in the church, teaching that everybody is free to understand and serve to God the
way he feels if it has generally some similarities to their build idea on holiness based on their bible
readings.

* Reject the crucifixion (Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ crucified) as the most fundamental symbol
of Christianity claming that Christ has already raised:
(Contradicting what is written by the St. Paul in the Bible.
Who openly confesses that he wants to be know and Preach Christ Crucified).

* Do understand the Cross as only a symbol to Christianity, Claiming that early Christians have
used a fish as a symbol of Christianity (As a remembrance of our Lord's miracle with multiplying the fishes
and feeding 5000 people).

* Many Protestants Reject the power of the Cross symbol in Christians making the sign of the Cross
(Again contradicting the Holy Fathers who say that through crossing ourselves with the sign of the Cross,
every demon is banished and trembles in fear.

* Do claim that the bible is the one and only authority a christian should obey.
That as far as I've red is called "Sola Scriptura" (Only the Scriptures in Latin).
In Orthodoxy we have the tradition of the Holy Fathers which supplements what is written
in the bible and on many occasions enables us to understand what the bible exactly
talks about.

* Have many contradictiory teaching built by different pastors, all interpretations
of The Book Revelation (Apocalypsis) by St. John.

* Many of them claim seeing heaven or being in heaven and being back,
each's. Most accounts contradicing each other. Talking about seeing Jesus

* Many of them claim seeing heaven or being in heaven and being back,
each's. Most accounts contradicing each other. Talking about seeing Jesus
with golden belt, whole in light.
Talking about Heaven filled in with Golden
streets, etc., etc...
And Many, Many more lieful things which every orthodox spiritual christian,
as well as any other spiritual christian out their should know are based on imagination and fantasy.
My personal experience in faith has shown me that spiritual things doesn't have nothing to do with
physical seeing, nor have anything to do with anything we do know in this world. This could be also
red in the writtings of the saints as well as in the writtings of st. apostle Paul who talks
about knowing a man who saw heaven in the holy bible.
Thereby he explains, How he saught things which cannot be explained in human terms.

* Rejection of the eucharist (taking the sacraments), as a real blood and flesh of our Saviour and Lord
Jesus Christ.
Herein they again try to imply that eucharist or taking the sacraments (blood and wine) as most of
the protestant churches does is only symbolism and is ordered just as a remembrance of our Lord's
last supper as we read in the Gospel wherein he commanded us to do that for this remembrance.
Again ignoring the rest of his words recorded in the other canonical Gospels in which the Lord Jesus Christ openly
says (Whoever does not eat his body and doesn't eat and drink his blood has no place with him.

* Protestants Reject the Holy Liturgy in the Orthodox Church and the Church order
(e.g. claiming no priest is needed everybody could freely communicate with God through prayers),
herein they mistakenly think that the Orthodox Christian does communicate with God only through the
priest this is absolutely not true. Communicating with God is not done onlh through the priest.
Yes it's true that God's gifts and forgiveness are granted to the Church members through the priest as
well as the eucharist (the holy communion), itself is received via priest as God has ordained since old times
, even in the old testament, however communion with God is achieved also within throughout the Church services
and in prayer at our homes as well.
Moreover,e ven though our Lord Jesus Christ has spokenly openly against priests of his time
while he was still on earth he never rejected the authority of the priests.
For example the miracle our Lord has done healing the 10 lepers.
After healing the 10 leprs, our Lord told them, "Go show yourself to the priests".
If the assertion by protestants is true, and no priest is needed how come our Lord Jesus sents the healed ones
to the priests? Not to mention that they still have a sort of priest, (The pastor) who basicly
serves a similar role to the Orthodox Priest.

* Protestants Reject the burning of Candles by layman, incense burning on the altar before God
and within the Church to sanctify externally everything within the place.

That's bacause they don't understand two things:

1. The meaning of Candles (The least man's sacrifice (God pleasing offering))
2. The incense left from the old times when priests were serving before God with burning God pleasing
incense before the face of God.
I'm not theologian and doesn't know the exact explanation so that's mostly my understanding on
why incense is burned.
I've also heard that incense is something dislikeable to the unclean spirits
(demons) to be said by random people most of which not regular members of the Church.
(This thesis need to be approved furhter on by Orthodox theologian or a priest)
3. The Candles's role is also as a mean to fund the Church in terms of money.
The Church's building and Church's God servents needs money as well to exist, didn't they?

* Protestants reject the veneration of the Icons.

- Here protestant understanding of the icons is as they're idols.
That is completely wrong understanding.
Icons represent and remind of us of things already described in the bible,
as well depicts the martyrdom of different christian orthodox saints. Reverenting the saint
indeed we does honour the Holiness of the Saint achieved by his sanctification by his holy life
through our God (The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit), therefore we does venerate not the saint
but God alone who dwelled and dwells forever within the saint.

* Protestant are not aware of the existance of miraculous icons (most of which containing
relics of miracle making saints through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ), they have also no clue
that we have some saints with incorruptable bodies, whose earthly holiness was so obvious and their
body so filled with God's spirit that the flesh became incorruptable by God's holy providence.
They reject the honouring of the holy relics of saints. Ignoring the story in the old testament
told where a dead soldier falls in the grave containing the holy relics of Prophet Elisha and
arised back to live. Which is an old testament example of how holy and precious are the relics
of a saint.

* Most protestants fail to glorify God as a Holy Trinity (Here is what I mean,
Whenever Glory to God is expressed, it's never said:
Glory to the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.
To manifest the belief in the Holy Trinity as we do in the Orthodox Church on every Holy Liturgy.

* Protestants say they believe in The Triunite God still they bend God The Holy Trinity to the point they call
God, "The Trinity". Which sounds like they place themselves on the same height as God alone (again
erroneous).

* Protestant does not make distinction between the the three apostates (natures) of God The Holy Trinity.
In other words when talking about God they think talking about God the Son (our Lord Jesus Christ) is
absolutely equal to talking about God the Father or God the Holy Spirit. Which again is not true,
This three God's apostates are not one and the same thing, they're one holy and inseperatable God
which in all terms is different to what is taught in protestanism.

* Protestants does understand fasting as a way to restrain of food completely for days.
This approach even if practiced literally by the the Holy Prophets, The Holy Apostles, The Church Fathers and
The Holy Saints is not applicable to the normal layman. Such experiments with the body could bring you
a health issues if practiced in the long term. One of the dangers if somebody goes that way is to
get gastritis or other stomach sicknesses, not to mention that this could not even benefit you
in a spiritual sense quite often.
The orthodox fasting is abstention mainly firstly of the sinful thoughts and desires and then
abstention from animal derivative food and products (with some small exceptions). In no means
that we could abstain completely from food.
During lent or some of the other 4 fasting periods in the Orhtodox Church on Church Feasts,
Eating of Fish is allowed. Still in the Orthodox Church completele abstention of food is
practiced in some monasteries and by some people whose dedication to God is many levels above
ours (the laymans).
Some protestants accuse orthodoxy that it doesn't practice the true fasting (completele
withhold of food), this is not true since in orthodox christianity there are different
levels of fasting. The highest level is a complete abstention from food and is practiced by saints
and monks.

* Protestant reject the Orthodox Prayer Book as a mean of a guide in prayer.
(This still needs to be researched further? Never heard of a protestant Christian that uses an Orthodox
Prayer book)
In Orthodox Prayer books, we pray with the prayers of the saints which assures are that the words
we spoke do hold up to the main orthodox christian doctrine and the orthodox Creed of faith and
the teaching within the church.
Whilst in Protestanism, Prayers are mostly based on their each one's own understanding on prayer.
The Prayer tought by our Lord Jesus Christ is the one most practiced (Which at least is something good).
The rest are prayers crafted by every man according to his own understanding about faith God and truth
and the situation.

* Protestants (or at least most of them) reject that Mother Mary is ever virgin (Theotokos as
we orthodox christians call the Holy Mother of God)
Most of Christian protestants reject that Mother Mary has been ever virgin until her dormition
and ever after. This is another fundamental miracle of the many and innumerable miracles of God.
They tend to ignore what is written in the gospels in the new testament,
everybody can read there that all the nations will call Virgin Mary blessed.
(Never heard a protestant calling mother mary blessed or reverenting her in a special way as
a Mother of God as we do in the orthodox Church)
Many of the protestant christian denominations does teach that mother mary has even had
children from Jacob her husband by law. (The early church never taught that! This is repulsive
heresy!)

* As far as I know some protestant Chirstian teachings reject that Christ is the Logos and the
fact that our Lord Jesus Christ is begotten by God the Father before all ages (This is stated
in the Orthodox Creed of faith).
(Again this still needs further closer investigation).

* Many Protestants believe wrongfully that they are saints because the possess the Holy Spirit
within.
Again erroneous from orthodox perspective. Won't get into details about this issue.

* Probably the list goes on and on ... As I said earlier I'm not a theologian
Well let me close that, with a few closing words.
The Orthodox Church teaches that protestanism is a heresy and
the truth is only kept and taught properly within the realm of the Orthodox Church.
However many of the priests and servents of the Orthodox Church does act nowdays in a way
that stain the orthodox church teachings as well as the orthodox church reputation, that creates
distrust and drives back many people who does judge about orthodoxy based on the actings of people
who do dare to call themselves orthodox but they are spiritually serving in most of the time not
to God but probably to the evil one.
.No matter this still what is being mainly told in the church holds up to the Church canons and therefore
the influence of unfaithful and sinful priests or orthodox church servents cannot change the truth
which the church canons contains. Thus luckily the Orthodox Church believers are being taught plainly mostly what was
taught in the church since it's birth day on Pentecost while the Spirit of God descended unto
the Holy Apostles. The dangers of joining a protestant church are even higher, many
of this churches are money machines nowdays, believers are being taught lieful claims, fragments
of the bible are being taught as a means to stimulate people's guilt to make them donate more
for the given protestant church or denomination.
In reality many nowdays protestant churches and denominations are smartly built business empires,
which one and only aim is increase money revenues. I've even red online many testimonies of
people (pastors) who practice hypnosis, the people who testified against the pseudo Christian pastors
described how this pseudo-pastors used well known hypnotist tricks to force people's subconsciousness
into a state of hypnosis in which (the hypnotist pastor ideas) and subsequentially control over the
pseudo-church members could be exercised.
Don't get me wrong I don't want to be in war with protestanism or Protestant understanding and ways
to serve God. What do I want is just to introduce christians of the many dangers of being
a non-orthodox christian believer. I personally do have many friends who even though not openly
are more closely to the protestant belief system, than orthodox's. They as people are really nice,
I can say they do strive doing good deeds, read the bible, pray, try not to sin and be
centered on our Lord Jesus Christ. On many hard times in the past for me, while I was still
not belonging to the orthodox christian church. I thought that churches are corrupted and they does
withhold people from salvation which is only attained through the knowledge of the Lord Jesus alone
with the act of accepting the Lord Jesus Christ (as the true and only son of God who died for our sins
on Golgotha and roused again in the third day according to the scriptures).

I have to admit that People with mainly protestant believes or inclinations have sustained me through intercession prayers to God,
in the past, while being friends getting out together, discussing the bible, contemporary christianity etc.
However even though the good sides, everything was far from perfect.
When I'm thinking about the times back then I feel like a bit being like into a sect.
We were always gathering together and talking about the bible and God and suchalike, at many
times just talking non-sense.
Many of the discussions during meetings, were our own interpretations of the bible each one
claiming his own interpretation is the true one. Mostly trying to somehow synchronize our ideas with some
protestant famous authors like Watch Man Nee (whose teaching from my current position could
be classified as lieful heresies).
Said in other words we were looking for true spirituality.
Something I lately found by God's divine providence within the Orthodox Church and Orthodox Christianity.
So again the real reason for writing all the above is just to try to emphasize the differences
between orthodoxy and protestanism. And many of the downsides of protestanism.
Some other things I have noticed is that people whose positions on faith are protestant tend thing alike:
"The bible says" heavily.
No offense but the Holy Bible is bent down to the low "The Bible" instead of "Holy Bible" as it should.
Not to mention the true respect to Holy apostles is skipped and they are called by names with skipping the "Saint" word.
Which automatically does ranks the holy apostles on the same level as us, which I personally think is not a good
thing to do. Well of course pretestanism as everything else has not only the bad sides.
I still love protestant christian artists like Larry Norman, ApologetiX, Andy Hunter, Tourniquet,
Deliverance, Circle of Dust, Juggernautz, X-Propagation, Rez Band, Glenn Kaiser, the list goes on,
many many more to mention here. I love Christian Rock and Metal since I came from a rock and Metal musical background
and I still listen to rock and metal music every now and then I try to mostly listen to a Christian messaged one.
But still truth must be told, in protestanism Truth is mixtured with heresies.
I cannot hide that a lot of the protestant christian literature I've red tried to explain a lot of the
logical problems I was seeing in Christianity and the Holy Bible, however later on I've found out
that many of the ideas shared in the protestant christian books were contradicting believes in
the orthodox church and does lack a logical reason out of the book context.

We should be alert while accepting many of the things preached within protestanism through
books, media, music etc. And always look for the true Christianity which has led me
to the Orthodox Christianity. I don't say that currently things in the Orthodox Church are
perfect what I say are that it's the Church that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, left us saying:
"I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

A bundle of nice spiritual Movies

I thought it would be nice to mention a couple of interesting movies that were quite edifying.

1. The Chosen - A Jewish Movie talking about a jewish boy life from a jewish perspective,
would be interesting since it represents many of the nice jewish traditions.

2. Diary of a Country Priest (1954) - A French Catholic movie observing a life of God
inspired Catholic priest, which somehow didn't fit to the whole catholic church reality,
however, his attitude towards life was like old times saints. Just like your
saviour and Lord Jesus Christ he was rejected and people hated by most of the people.
His everyday food consisted in bread and wine. It seems he suffered a stomach cancer
disease which progressed through out the movie. The movie shows the human suffering
and many of the everyday temptations we face as christians, it's said to be one
of the most notable spiritual movies ever made.

3. Nazarin (1959) - A class movie by Nuis Bunuel, mostly in the protestant tradition.
The story behind the movie is about a man who does followed the New Testament our Lord's
Jesus Christ teaching quite literally. He was followed by some followers who got inspired
by his eagerness and strive for holiness, he was believed to be a modern day saint by
his followers (two women) and later on a dwarf like man.

4. Geroi Shipki - A Russian Bulgarian history based movie made to present the Bulgarian
battle for restoration of their country liberty which would be impossible without the
help of our orthodox brotherly nation (The Russians). Another interesting point for
viewers would be how the movie illustrates some similarities between Bulgarians and
Russians based on their similar language and their common Orthodox faith.

Problems with Skype 2.0.0.72 on Debian Unstable Again and their solutions

Arrghh. After I've upgraded a couple of packages on my Debian unstable I've came across the
same old problem. Skype's sound input, output and ringing refused to work again.
It took me like 4 hours to resolve the problem!!!!! ARGHHHH.
It's the right time to say that skype is a complete diarrhia m*ther fucking bullshit!
I've tried evething. Like experimting with volume settings in:
1. /usr/bin/gnome-volume-control.gstreamer
2. /usr/bin/gnome-volume-control
3. /usr/bin/gnome-alsamixer
4. /usr/bin/aumix
the list goes on !! You name it. And everytime it was nothing. I've realised some of the updates mangled my /etc/pulse/daemon.conf.
Thus I had to add again default-fragments = 8 default-fragment-size-msec = 5 into it.
I've tried everything my ~/.asoundrc pcm.pulse { type pulse } ctl.pulse { type pulse } pcm.!default { type pulse } ctl.!default { type pulse } pcm.card0 { type hw card 0 } ctl.card0 { type hw card 0 } pcm.dsp0 { type plug slave.pcm "hw:0,0" }
Well that's not all the latest update of the lib32asound2-plugins Debian package is missing the pulseaudio required libraries
. Huh ?!
Anyways let's get back to business.
To make skype work I had to create the following script:
#!/bin/sh
export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulse;
/usr/bin/linux32 /opt/Skype/skype_static-2.0.0.72/skype

in /usr/local/bin/skype
Next I had to execute:
amixer set 'Input Source' 'Internal Mic' and echo "amixer set 'Input Source' 'Internal Mic'" >> /etc/rc.local
And yes you need to have downloaded static version of skype 2.0.0.72 and put it in /opt/Skype/ directory.
Well if you're lucky. Hooray Skype might work again ? If God fix it for you :)

Enrich your Gnome Desktop with Screenlets Dashboard

Yesterday I've tried plugin which provides widgetop to your Linux desktop through plugin
for Screenelts for which I've said a couple of words in one of my previous posts.
It's pretty straight forward to install.

1. Download the Dashboard plugin
2. Start screenlets
3. Choose Install and then select the previously downloaded archive file
4. Go to Screenlets Manager and activate the new plugin

Be prepared that on Debian the Dashboard would seem like it's not gonna work, a warning will pop-up alarming about a problem with Firefox. Well seems the plugin
dislikes iceweasel which basicly is the same thing in Debian.
However there is a button in which you force the plugin to work with icedove you can click.
That would force it to run with Iceweasel as far as I have seen it works with IceWeasel just as good as in plain Firefox.

A quick way to change picture background with the Gimp

I wanted to change the background of a picture of a Russian Orthodox Cross I've downloaded from the net. After some time spend experimenting and reading a couple of articles online I did it :).
Here is how:
1. Open an Image in Gimp through the File -> Open as Layers menu. 2. Use Fuzzy Select tool to select regions based on color of the image you'd like to change the background. 3. Open a new File in Gimp via New -> File menus. 4. Select again the window containing the image you selected with the Fuzzy Tool and press Ctrl+X. 5. Now go again to the newly opened picture and use the: Bucket Fill Tool with some selected color to select the new background for the future image. 6. Now after having a background color already selected use Ctrl+V to paste your previous selection Well congrats, you should now be having the good old image on a shiny new background.

Linux / FreeBSD Color Selector and picker

Today I spend my day partly playing with the GIMP. This days I have the enthusiasm, to start learning this nice linux design software.
I have to solve a task where I wanted to change the background of a picture with an existing color
in the header of a website.
Therefore I needed some kind of color picker which is able to pick up
colors directly from any running application on the screen. Luckily I found the solution quickly,
with the help by a guy in #debian in irc.freenode.net. I was suggested to look for color picker via
$ apt-cache search color picker . The first thing that popped up was exactly what I was looking for. It's called GCOLOR2. Hope this post will help to somebody out there looking for a color picker for Linux, FreeBSD.

Prism on Linux a way to turn any Web site location into a Desktop application

I was googling for some cool features to enrich my Google desktop while I found an applicaiton which is said to be helpful.
It's called Prism and is a Mozilla Lab experiment project. Actually it's nothing special.
It creates a simple window in which it can visualize a website making it look exactly like your desktop applications.
It has a couple of possiblities like creating a desktop icon for your website, enable some kind of navigation keys, show status messages on what's happening on the desktop embeded application and show navigation bars.
The project is said to be a revolutionary next step towards integrating the web with your desktop
. You can check out Prism's website further on On mozilla's prism website . It might be interesting for you to check out Prism in action before you might go for a try on Youtube here .
Prism is both available via Firefox extension or a desktop application both of which provides you with the described above prism functionality. As a Debian user you might wonder if prism is available as a debian package, well there is one
, even though it's not a release part of the offician debian package distribution. If you'd like to test prism via it's debian package use the following prism deb package
, anyways the downside of using the 0.9 debian package is that you won't be running prism's latest release.
If you'd like to be running the latest prism version please download it from mozilla's website.
Well enough talk let me tell you my personal view on Prism. It's a COMPLETE BULLSHIT! :) I don't see how any geek would have benefit of the app neither, how does it bridge in the web with the desktop.
It's simply a crap that could take of your daily lifetime to install and review :)

Learning to Control Yourself the Christian Way

Since some time I'm thinking about the importance of a way to self control yourself in
order to achieve your goals.
That is something I've been always tought in the University.
Howevery the control approaches were always contradictiory to what I read in the holy bible.
Today while googling I came across a nice Christian document discussing "How to learn to
control yourself." The documnet is written by a protestant pastor. Even though I believe
many of the things explained there does really fit to most believers. There is a part
in the document that rejects the ascetism and probably monks way as a mean to achieve Self Control
in the long term. From an Orthodox Christian point of view I have to emphasize that this is completely wrong.
Another thing that probably does not fit well with christianity is the suggestion by the pastor to write down on a piece of paper what you think your mission for life is.
This approach as 've red before is suggested on many websites where people convinced in buddhism and other
religions does have the same spiritual value as christianity. This of course is a blatant lie!
There is only one salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ who lived gave himself for us (all the sinful people on earth)
and raised from the dead in the third day. As the dead couldn't hold him as God in the flesh.
Enough talk, here is a link to the article Learning to Control Yourself by Pastor Steven J. Cole .

Howto install and configure Local DHCP Server for small LAN local network on FreeBSD

Since some time ago, I've been planning to install a DHCP server to automatically assign the IP addresses of the hosts in my tiny local network.
Here is how I did it:
First I had to install:
the port isc-dhcpd31-server
Execute the commands:
# cd /usr/ports/net/isc-dhcp31-server;
# make install clean
For some reason the dhcpd reason didn't get created, so I have to issue.
pw add user dhcpd;

After which use vipw to change the default shell for the dhcpd user to /usr/sbin/nologin as
well as the default user home directory to /var/empty

Next I used the following dhcpd.conf file:
--- SNAP ---
option domain-name "pc-freak.net";
option domain-name-servers 83.228.92.2, 83.228.92.2;

default-lease-time 600;
max-lease-time 7200;

# Use this to enble / disable dynamic dns updates globally.
ddns-update-style ad-hoc;

# Use this to send dhcp log messages to a different log file (you also
# have to hack syslog.conf to complete the redirection).
log-facility local7;

# No service will be given on this subnet, but declaring it helps the
# DHCP server to understand the network topology.

subnet 10.152.187.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
}

subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
  range 192.168.0.2 192.168.0.255;
  option domain-name-servers 192.168.0.1;
  option domain-name "pc-freak.net";
  option routers 192.168.0.1;
  option broadcast-address 192.255.255.255;
  default-lease-time 3600;
  max-lease-time 7200;
}

# the lines below enables you to assign specific IP addresses depending on
# machine's MAC address
host jericho {
        hardware ethernet 00:13:2a:33:7d:1e;
        fixed-address 192.168.0.2;
}

host noah {
        hardware ethernet 00:0b:e4:c9:7b:59;
        fixed-address 192.168.0.4;
}

--- END ---

You might need to change some of the IP addresses the conf above is configured for my local network which is in the IP range 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.255.
The above conf file's name servers are my ISP's nameservers ns.bergon.net and ns1.bergon.net The variable broadcast-address is the range in which the DHCPD servers will broadcast and eventually assign IP addresses.
routers variable sets your network default router in my case it's my local gateway.
range variable is self explanatory.
subnet is the subnet in which your network is.
max-lease-time is the time interval in which a DHCP IP reassign occurs
default-lease-time the default time on which IP reassign occurs
The rest could be red in the commentaries above the variables:
To make dhcpd log in a separate file it's also necessery to edit your /etc/syslog.conf and change the line
*.notice;authpriv.none;kern.debug;lpr.info;mail.crit;news.err;  /var/log/messages
with
*.notice;authpriv.none;kern.debug;lpr.info;mail.crit;news.err;local7.!*;        /var/log/messages

as well as add:
local7.*                                                /var/log/dhcpd
to /etc/syslog.conf.
The above changes in syslog.conf should foce syslogd to log to /var/log/dhcpd instead of stuffing your /var/log/messages with dhcpd log output
It's also necessary to create /var/log/dhcpd's file:
Execute: touch /var/log/dhcpd as well as restart the syslogd
/etc/rc.d/syslogd restart .
Futhermore execute:
echo 'dhcpd_enable="YES"' >> /etc/rc.conf
echo 'dhcpd_iface="rl0"' >> /etc/rc.conf

The above as you probably know will schedule isc-dhcpd to start up every time your system boots.
Well you should be now having a shiny spreading dhcpd service in your local network.
Enjoy and Praise God :) !

Enable festival Linux (text-to-speech-system) to read/speak PDF and DOC files (Speech PDF and DOC in Festival Script)

Today I wondered if festival supports reading of PDF files. The answer due to my research was NO!.
Well not such a big deal since it's not so hard to convert PDF files into plain text files in Linux with pdftotext command.
pdftotext is part of the poppler-utils which is a nice package which also contains
pdfimages - enabling you to extract images from pdfs, pdftohtml - pdf to html converter and pdffonts - pdf font analyzier.
The normal way to read PDF files via festival is:
First use pdftotext to convert your PDF to text file
$ pdftotext filename.pdf outputfile.txt
and then:

$ cat outfile.txt | festival --tts

For convenience I've created a small shell script I called festival-read-pdf.sh which does this directly.
Please download the festival-read-pdf.sh shell script here

Furthermore I wondered how to make the Microsoft Office .doc files to be played through festival.
On that account It was required something to convert again the .doc file extension to plain text.
I came across antiword which I've blogged about in my previous post.
Thus to carry it via festival you need to:
antiword filename.doc | festival --tts

I've fastly scripted it for some convenience.
Download the festival-doc-read.sh script here

I've also created a third bash script which enables you to select either to play DOC or PDF file in Festival. Here is a link to the festival's festival-read-doc-en-pdf.sh PDF, DOC speaker script
. Talking about festival it might be interesting to mention fala - A simple text reader. If you're a Debian user you'll be glad to know there is already a package containg fala.
Well I hope you'll find the PDF, DOC festival speech scripts useful. Enjoy
