Its more than great. Your experience with metal is much similar to mine. Nowadays, I only listen to Slow Rock and Metal, in addition to slow tunes from other pop genres. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Nowdays I don’t listen to much of a metal. I listen some kind of blues-rock bands like Glenn Kaiser or a bit more slower rock genres as the agressiveness and depression is something I want to stay away from 😉

Being a devout follower of Metal in all its various forms I would like to comment briefly on my own experience, which seems to follow a different trend. I originally as you did when I was younger around probably 12-15 listening to classic rock, mainly because thats what my father listened to and I had yet to acquire any portable MP3 device. When I first exposed myself to Metal I felt inspired, invigorated, and empowered. However I still listened to my classical rock roots just as much, but recently in the last 2 to 3 years I have been listening to more and more metal (I’m currently 19 years of age). Personally my views on the world have not changed nor my reactions to how I respect and treat people including myself, in fact, it was my personality that drew me to metal in the first place. To further this claim, I have had problems seeing things the same way as my mother and as consequence we have argued frequently, which became the basis of many issues I engaged in with my family when I was in high school. This actually is what initially spurred me seek out the Metal music genre. So for those disgruntled parents out there, take note of your child’s behavior and see what he turns to, then you can analyze whether the music your child listens to is the cause or the effect. Ironically to some of you listening to metal has given me a greater appreciation of rhythm and lyrics. For instance, when I’m looking for something invigorating (when I’m having a slow day at the office) I will pop up a song with a fast beat and riffs, or when I’m looking for something inspiring I will find a song that tells a story or uses poetry to convey a message. However, I think the most ironic thing yet is that in having a greater appreciation of melody and rhythm I will seek music that is soothing or esoteric in flow such as Enya when I want to calm myself or relax (who I recommend highly if you want to hear extremely soothing music). I recommend two articles which I have personally looked through and read, which I think you might find relatively surprising. This goes for everyone who has commented on this thread not just the author. 1.) http://www.suite101.com/content/psychology-of-heavy-metal-music-a53261
2.) http://www.squidoo.com/metal_music
I also want to note that I am a spiritually minded individual who has been a member of my church for several years (ever since I was old enough to apply for membership), not that, that should not make a difference in opinion, but people still find bias one way or another. Also considering that I’m 19, what do I know, I’m just a child on the cusp of life and understanding :).
I just realized that one of the links I added was one your included as well :P.
