I used to use Rsnapshot and swore that it was the best backup solution since sliced bread! That is until it ate up all my spare space on its hard drive, not once, but twice! Since then I've avoided it and use a custom backup script which is mentioned and described in my blog, and wouldn't change as it just works uncomplainingly. Have a look and see for yourself, you never know you might find it useful for your usage too?
