Another way is to just wait for some time and contacts will show up by themselves. I don’t know what exactly is happening on the background but it is connected to how mobile communicoesates over WIFI with Gmail Conctacts. Also this contacts missing issue occurs always after you apply some application or general Android updates on the phone. To not end up suddenly with missing contacts, while you need them urgently, you better always disable WIFI when you’re not updating the phone or not using it. Also always be sure to have the WIFI disabled before you reboot or shutdown the phone, because my assumption is such issues occurs exactly when the Phone’s contacts are in synchronization with Gmail and you switch it off. Probably contacts synchronization doesn’t end properly and thus the Contacts database gets corrupted while transfering causing the annoying issues …

Another reason for sudden missed contacts sometimes is if you’re to used Skype and you close it by killing it. It happened to me on a couple of locations that this led me to situation where contacts were not properly synced back. Stoopid M$ Skype!

Hey, great tips, although notifications can be useful sometimes, but can distract us easily.
