Comment on Secure delete files irreverseble on Debian and Fedora GNU / Linux by Gepeto.

When I need to erase a whole disk I don’t do that just with a Linux command. I use a DOS software called Active Kill Disk from a rescue disk I’ve got that shred data with the DoD 5220.22-M method. Usually 3 passes are sufficient and is done as low level.

I knew shred for occasionnal secure remove process but didn’t thought of using it when and account is needed to be delete with all its data (for example). Well, that should take a lot of time and CPU consumption… I’ll keep in mind for next black out ! thanx

Windows Explorer (Open directory in command prompt preserving dir PATH) – Add Dos Prompt Here feature via tiny registry tweak
Interesting for old windows server.

Otherwise since Windows 2008 / 7 (maybe vista ?) you just need to write “cmd” in the navigation bar. Then the command shell will open up pointing to the current directory of the explorer.

And why not using Ccleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) ? You can do a lot of such very great to clean temporary files et registry of a windows machine. And the UI is not crappy 🙂
