Check your Server Download / Upload Internet Speed from Console on Linux / BSD / Unix howto

tux-check-internet-network-download-upload-speed-on-linux-console-terminal-linux-bsd-unix
If you've been given a new dedicated server from a New Dedicated-Server-Provider or VPS with Linux and you were told that a certain download speed to the Server is guaranteed from the server provider, in order to be sure the server's connection to the Internet told by service provider is correct it is useful to run a simple measurement console test after logging in remotely to the server via SSH.

Testing connection from Terminal is useful because as you probably know most of Linux / UNIX servers doesn't have a GUI interface and thus it is not possible to test Internet Up / Down Bandwidth through speedtest.net.

1. Testing Download Internet Speed given by ISP / Dedi-Server Provider from Linux Console

For the download speed (internet) test the historical approach was to just try downloading the Linux kernel source code from www.kernel.org with some text browser such as lynx or links count the seconds for which the download is completed and then multiple the kernel source archive size on the seconds to get an approximate bandwidth per second, however as nowdays internet connection speeds are much higher, thus it is better to try to download some Linux distribution iso file, you can still use kernel tar archive but it completed too fast to give you some good (adequate) statistics on Download bandwidth.

If its a fresh installed Linux server probably you will probably not have links / elinks and lynx text internet browers  installed so install them depending on deb / rpm distro with:

If on Deb Linuz distro:

root@pcfreak:/root# apt-get install –yes links elinks lynx

On RPM Based Linuz distro:

[root@fedora ~]# yum install -y lynx elinks links

Conduct Internet  Download Speed with links
root@pcfreak:/root# links https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/linux-3.19.1.tar.xz

check_your_download_speed-from-console-linux-with-links-text-browser

(Note that the kernel link is current latest stable Kernel source code archive in future that might change, so try with latest archive.)

You can also use non-interactive tool such as wget curl or lftp to measure internet download speed

To test Download Internet Speed with wget without saving anything to disk set output to go to /dev/null

root@pcfreak:~# wget -O /dev/null https://www.pc-freak.net//~hipo/hirens-bootcd/HirensBootCD15/Hirens.BootCD.15.0.zip

check_bandwidth_download-internet-speed-with-wget-from-console-non-interactively-on-linux

You see the Download speed is 104 Mbit/s this is so because I'm conducting the download from my local 100Mbit network.

For the test you can use my mirrored version of Hirens BootCD

2. Testing Uplink Internet speed provided by ISP / Server Provider from Linux (SSH) Console

To test your uplink speed you will need lftp or iperf command tool.

root@pcfreak:~# apt-cache show lftp|grep -i descr -A 12
Description: Sophisticated command-line FTP/HTTP client programs
Lftp is a file retrieving tool that supports FTP, HTTP, FISH, SFTP, HTTPS
and FTPS protocols under both IPv4 and IPv6. Lftp has an amazing set of
features, while preserving its interface as simple and easy as possible.
 .
The main two advantages over other ftp clients are reliability and ability
to perform tasks in background. It will reconnect and reget the file being
transferred if the connection broke. You can start a transfer in background
and continue browsing on the ftp site. It does this all in one process. When
you have started background jobs and feel you are done, you can just exit
lftp and it automatically moves to nohup mode and completes the transfers.
It has also such nice features as reput and mirror. It can also download a
file as soon as possible by using several connections at the same time.

root@pcfreak:/root# apt-cache show iperf|grep -i desc -A 2
Description: Internet Protocol bandwidth measuring tool
Iperf is a modern alternative for measuring TCP and UDP bandwidth performance,
allowing the tuning of various parameters and characteristics.

To test Upload Speed to Internet connect remotely and upload any FTP file:

root@pcfreak:/root# lftp -u hipo www.pc-freak.net -e 'put Hirens.BootCD.15.0.zip; bye'

uploading-file-with-lftp-screenshot-test-upload-internet-speed-linux

On Debian Linux to install iperf:

root@pcfreak:/root# apt-get install –yes iperf

On latest CentOS 7 and Fedora (and other RPM based) Linux, you will need to add RPMForge repository and install with yum

[root@centos ~]# rpm -ivh  rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el7.rf.x86_64.rpm

[root@centos ~]# yum -y install iperf

Once having iperf on the server the easiest way currently to test it is to use
serverius.net speedtest server –  located at the Serverius datacenters, AS50673 and is running on a 10GE connection with 5GB cap.

root@pcfreak:/root# iperf -c speedtest.serverius.net -P 10

[ ID] Interval       Transfer     Bandwidth
[  9]  0.0-10.2 sec  4.05 MBytes  3.33 Mbits/sec
[ 10]  0.0-10.2 sec  3.39 MBytes  2.78 Mbits/sec
[ 11]  0.0-10.3 sec  3.75 MBytes  3.06 Mbits/sec

[  7]  0.0-10.9 sec  4.03 MBytes  3.11 Mbits/sec
[SUM]  0.0-10.9 sec  39.3 MBytes  30.3 Mbits/sec

You see currently my home machine has an Uplink of 30.3 Mbit/s per second, that's pretty nice since I've ordered a 100Mbits from my ISP (Unguaranteed Bandwidth Connection Speed) and as you might know it is a standard practice for many Internet Proviers to give Uplink speed of 1/4 from the ISP provided overall bandwidth 1/4 would be 25Mbi/s, meaning my ISP (Bergon.NET) is doing pretty well providing me with even more than promised (ordered) bandwidth.

Iperf is probably the choice of most sysadmins who have to do regular bandwidth in local networks speed between 2 servers or test  Internet Bandwidth speed on heterogenous network with Linux / BSDs / AIX / HP-UX (UNIXes). On HP-UX and AIX and other UNIXes for which iperf doesn't have port you have to compile it yourself.

If you don't have root /admin permissions on server and there is python language enterpreter installed you can use speedtest_cli.py script to test internet throughput connectivity
speedtest_cli uses speedtest.net to test server up / down link just in case if script is lost in future I've made ownload mirror of speedtest_cli.py is here

Quickest way to test net speed with speedtest_cli.py:

$ lynx -dump https://raw.github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli/master/speedtest_cli.py > speedtest_cli.py
$ chmod +x speedtest_cli.py
python speedtest_cli.py

How to remove the meta generator Content (Joomla! – Copyright) in Joomla 1.5

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Joomla-remove-meta-generator-content-to-hide-joomla-site-install
Do you wonder How to change <meta name="Generator" content="Joomla! – Copyright (C) 2005 – 2007 Open Source Matters. All rights reserved." /> in Joomla 1.5

If yes, Here is how I've just found to remove the:

in my Joomla installation.

I need to remove that as a part of making my website not to leak out that it runs on top of Joomla.

So here is how:

1. Go to your Joomla website main root directory
2. Edit /libraries/joomla/document/html/renderer/head.php
Look for line: 83 in the /libraries/joomla/document/html/renderer/head.php
There you will notice the code:

$strHtml .= $tab.'<meta name="generator" content="'.$document->getGenerator().'" />'.$lnEnd;

In order to remove the <meta name="generator" content="Joomla …." /> change the above code to something like:

$strHtml .= $tab.'<meta name="generator" content="My Custom Web site Generator name" />'.$lnEnd;

That's all now next time you refresh your website the content="Joomla! – Copyright (C) 2005 – 2009 Open Source Matters. All rights reserved." will be no more.
Cheers! 🙂

Howto check if mod_rewrite is installed and loaded in Apache 2.x and serving directories correctly

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

During my professional experience as a system administrator, it was a common misfortune in newly
configured unix servers mod_rewrite not to be serving .htaccess files.
Everytime I had to fix issue in which mod_rewrite was not working I loosed a lot of my precious time
The same story happened once again I had to check why mod_rewrite is not configured correctly and I cannot
apply some redirection rules in WordPress necessery for me
to exercise some SEO on my wordpress blog .
Therefore this time I decided to blog a step by step check on in order to:

1. Determine if mod_rewrite is installed & loaded correctly in Apache
2. Find out if mod_rewrite is configured to serve .htaccess files correctly
Going through this two scenarios I would be able to determine why I cannot get wordpress SEO optimization
mod_rewrite redirection rules to work as they should.
Okay, so let’s go through the two scenarios:

1. Here is a tiny script in PHP to determine if mod_rewrite is installed and loaded in Apache correctly
To use the script save it somewhere in your Domain document root with a .php extension
Here is the code of the script as well:

< ?phpprint_r(apache_get_modules());?>

If your mod_rewrite module is configured correctly you’ll see it in the php array containing
all your apache loaded modules.

Without PHP from the shell in order to get installed Apache modules on Linux, the following command applies:

apache2ctl -t -D DUMP_MODULES

For apache 2.2.x
httpd (or apache.exe) -M will show static and shared modules loaded via LoadModule.
httpd -l will show only static (compiled in) modules

For apache 2.0.x
httpd (apache.exe) -l is available but -M is not.
You will need to manually check the LoadModule directives and the files.

2. Now we continue, further on with another script that has to be installed somewhere in Apache’s DocumentRoot
I decided to install it in a directory /test/ so in my case it’s installed in www.pc-freak.net/test/
Here is a link to the script you need to find out if mod_rewrite is configured to serve .htaccess files for your preferred domain name’s DocumentRoot.

Now save this file and again make sure it has a .php extension.

Now you need to create an .htaccess file in the directory where you have rewrite.php file stored.
The content of the .htaccess file should be the following:

RewriteEngine OnRewriteOptions InheritRewriteRule ^link([^/]*).html$ rewrite.php?link=$1 [L]

Make sure the permissions of the .htaccess are correct, for example the file should have at least read
permissions for your webserver.
So let’s execute:

chmod a+r .htaccess to ensure the newly created file has proper permissions
So let’s check if mod_rewrite is enabled for my domain DocumentRoot by visiting:
this link
Hopefully if all is okay you’ll see:
Congratulations!! You are using Apache mod_rewrite whenever you press the TEST2 link
on the upmentioned webpage.

In case if you get a 404 error message, then most probably you don’t have mod_rewrite configured
to serve .htaccess files for your domain.
This often happens because of missing:
AllowOverride All in your main Directory directives in your webserver configuration file.
In my case I had a problem where mod_rewrite rules were not red from the .htaccess file:
To solve my issue I had to change:

Directory /
AllowOverride None
Order Deny,Allow
Deny from all
/Directory
in my httpd.conf to

Directory /
AllowOverride All
Order Deny,Allow
Deny from all
/Directory

So well, That’s all Folks!

Create Routine mirror copy of milw0rm & packetstorm exploits database

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Few weeks ago, I’ve built a small script and put it to
execute in cron in order to have an up2date local copy of
milw0rm. Ofcourse that’s pretty handy for several reasons.
For example milw0rm may go down and the exploit database tobe lost forever. This once happened with hack.co.za which ceasedto exist several years ago, even though it has one of thegreatest exploits database for it’s time.
Luckily I did a copy of hack.co.za, knowing that it’s gone
day might come here is the mirror archive of hack.co.za database
Anyways back to the main topic which was creating routine mirror
copy of milw0rm exploits database.
Here is the small script that needs to be setup on cron in order tohave periodic copy of milw0rm exploits database.
#!/usr/local/bin/bash# Download milw0rm exploitsdownload_to='/home/hipo/exploits';milw0rm_archive_url='http://milw0rm.com/sploits/milw0rm.tar.bz2';milw0rm_archive_name='milw0rm.tar.bz2';if [ ! -d '/home/hipo/exploits' ]; thenmkdir -p $download_to;ficd $download_to;wget -q $milw0rm_archive_url;tar -jxvvf $milw0rm_archive_name;rm -f $milw0rm_archive_name;exit 0 The script is available as wellfor download via milw0rm_exploits_download.sh
To make the script operational I’ve set it up to execute via cron with
the following cron record:
00 1 * * * /path_to_script/milw0rm_exploits_download.sh >/dev/null 2>&1 Here is another shell code I used to download all packetstormsecurity exploits frompacketstormsecurity’s website:
#!/usr/local/bin/bash# Download packetstormsecurity exploits# uses jot in order to run in freebsdpacketstorm_download_dir='/home/hipo/exploits';if [ ! -d "$packetstorm_download" ]; thenmkdir -p "$packetstorm_download";for i in $(jot 12); do wget http://www.packetstormsecurity.org/0"$i"11-exploits/0"$i"11-exploits.tgz; done
The script can be obtained also via following link (packetstormsecurity_expl_db_download.sh)

Another interesting tutorial that relates to the topic of building local
mirrors (local exploit database) is an article I found on darkc0de.com’s
website calledHow to build a local exploit database
The article explains thoroughly
howto prepare packetstormsecurity exploits database mirrorand
how to mirror milw0rm through python scripts.
Herein I include links to the 2 mirror scripts:
PacketStorm Security Mirror Script
milw0rm archive mirror script
Basicly the milw0rm archive script is identical to the small shellscript
I’ve written and posted above in the article. However I believe there is
one advantage of the shellscript it doesn’t require you
to have python installed 🙂

ipw3945 on kernel 2.6.30

Friday, September 4th, 2009

I’ve loosed big time trying to compile ipw3945 on my debian amd64 system running kernel 2.6.30, unfortunately at the endI couldn’t make ipw3945 run correctly. However I’ll try to explain just in case if somebody out there succeeds in running the ipw3945 driver on kernel 2.6.30. First I needed to compile the ieee80211-1.2.18 subsystem correctly. That gave me a hard time cause the damned thing won’t compile on my kernel version. I’ve googled about the solution and had to combine a couple of solutions before I succeed compiling. Here is what was required
1. First in ieee80211.module.c change proc_net for init_net.proc_net.
2. Next change in ieee80211_crypt_wep.c and ieee80211_crypt_tkip.c .page for .page_link
3. Next download ieee80211_wx.c-2.6.27.patch.txt
4. Patch ieee80211-1.2.18 e.g. in my case: # cd /usr/src/ieee80211-1.2.18; patch -p0 < ieee80211_wx.c-2.6.27.patch.txt
5. Overwrite the file ieee80211_crypt_tkip.c in /usr/src/ieee80211-1.2.18 with the following ieee80211_crypt_tkip.c file.
6. Now with God’s help you might try: # make && make install

Now let’s proceed to the compilation of the ipw3945 driver itself.

I’ve used the the ipw3945-1.2.2 driver from the Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Driver Website .In kernels newer than 2.6.22 on 64 bit architectures in order to make the driver compile, you have to apply the fix-for-64-bits-2.6.22-onwards.patch patch.
Now enter the ipw3945-1.2.2 source directory and execute patch -p0 < fix-for-64-bits-2.6.22-onwards.patch ,hopefully it should patch correctly.I had to also use the ipw3945-1.2.2.patch patch.
Again patch it with: # patch -p0 < ipw3945-1.2.2.patch.

Next in order to compile it I had to execute: # make IEEE80211_INC=/usr/src/ieee80211-1.2.18 IEEE80211_IGNORE_DUPLICATE=y && make install.Next I have downloaded the ipw3945d-1.7.22 . Untarred the archive file
# tar -zxvf ipw3945d-1.7.22.tgz and last but not least:
# cp -rpf x86_64/ipw3945d /etc/init.d/The ipw3945 loaded correctly with modprobe ipw3945, however the wireless device wasn’t detected … Even though the failure to make the ipw3945 driver running what I did gave me hope that eventually if I invest some more time and efforts attempting to make it work I could eventually succeed and enjoy the benefits of a better wireless networks signal strengths. Until that happens I’ll hold up to the newer iwl3945 to use my wireless.END—–

Windows: VMWare Start / Stop from command line stop-vmware.bat / start-vmware.bat script

Wednesday, June 4th, 2014

vmware_start-stop-from-command-line-on-windows-os-bat-script
I'm experimenting with different Virtual Machines these days, because often running VMWare together with other Virtual Machines (like VirtualBox) might be causing crashes or VM instability – hence it is always best to have VMWare completely stopped. Unfortunately VMWare keeps running a number of respawning processes (vmnat.exe, vmnetdhcp.exe, vmware-authd.exe, vmware-usbarbitrator64.exe) which cannot be killed from Task Manager with Process KillEnd Tree option. Thus to make this services stop it is necessery run from cmd.exe (which is Run as Administrator):

NET STOP "VMware Workstation Server"
NET STOP "VMware USB Arbitration service"
NET STOP "VMware NAT Service"
NET STOP "VMware DHCP Service"
NET STOP "VMware Authorization Service"

If you will be doing regular START / STOP of VMWare on Windows servers it will be handy to create a little batch script stop-vmware.bat containing:

@ECHO OFF
NET STOP "VMware Workstation Server"
NET STOP "VMware USB Arbitration service"
NET STOP "VMware NAT Service"
NET STOP "VMware DHCP Service"
NET STOP "VMware Authorization Service"

Later whether it is necessery to start VMWare from Windows command line execute above services in reverse order (to prevent from getting warnings or errors on vmware dependent services.

NET START "VMware Authorization Service"
NET START "VMware DHCP Service"
NET START "VMware NAT Service"
NET START "VMware USB Arbitration service"
NET START "VMware Workstation Server"

To script it as a start script create file start-vmware.bat with:

NET START "VMware Authorization Service"
NET START "VMware DHCP Service"
NET START "VMware NAT Service"
NET START "VMware USB Arbitration service"
NET START "VMware Workstation Server"

Of course it is possible to also stop / start VMWare from GUI's Windows Services interface by righclicking on services with VMWare names and selecting "Start" / "Stop".

Schindler’s List – A must see classical movie about the terrible Jewish Holocaust during World War II

Wednesday, September 10th, 2014

schindlersList-a-classical-movie-about-the-terrible-jewish-holocaust-during-world-war-ii
A very little is known in these days especially among young people of Europe about the terrible attrocities of the Jewish Holocaust and the concentration camps like Auschwitz organized by Hitler's Nazi Germany in World War II.

Schindler's List is a very good American movie (from 1993) retelling a true story about how enterpreneur Oskar Schindler managed to save about 1200 Jewish people from extermination in the camp of dead – Auschwitz during WWII.
Schindler's List is a movie that shows how even a deeply business oriented money obsessed man like O.

oscar_schindler_Schindler-list-movie-main-actor-with-a-cigarette

Schindler was before the beginning of war could grow in the love of Christ and Christian faith to risk his life and well being in order to be liable and honest with himself in a years when most of Nazi's Germans become totally unhuman and obsessed to wipe out existence of Old Testament God's Choosen People – The Jewish.

The movie is based on a popular novel Schindler's Ark by Canadian Thomas Keneally about how the German Shindler saved lifes of thousand Polish-Jewish refugees by creating an own business (fabric) run in Nazi's Germany before WWII and later inside a concentration camp. The movie is shot by the the film legend Steven Spilberg (who is also a Jew) intentionally Black and White to put an extra artistic impact and is very much made to look like a documentary.

The movie is 3 hours 28 minutes of Drama and has multiple awards for  Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score. The movie plot starts from how the anti-semitism in Germany started and how it progressed a little time before the emerge of war and the start of Jewish persecution. The main actors are Oscar Schindler a member of German Nazi Party whose dream is to make a big fortune out of the war. By using bribes and his bright manipulative personality he manages to bribe Wehrmacht (German Armed Forces) and WWII SS (German special forces). Schindler uses the local Jewish Itzhak Stern who has plenty of contacts in Jewish Business community and black marketers to form a cheap-hand jewish labour force for his factory for metal vessels to be used within Germany Nazi's Army. Many high qualified jewish was more than happy to be hired in his "Fabryka Oskara Schindlera" fabric, because this was quite a better alternative than being in one of the deadly concentration camps.

schindler-list-atrocities-of-the-germans

The movie shows, how jewish were forced to obey an always changing and unclear criterias in order to convince them they're no good for nothing and thus for Nazis to find reason to kill as many as possible of them. At a certain point the situation gets out of control and Jewish peoples who are forced to live in Jewish ghettos start being randomly mass murdered for missing reasons in Płaszów concentration camp. SS-Untersturmführer (second lieutenant) Amon Goeth is responsible to oversee the Plaszow camp , once the camp completes its construction by jews, he orders getto liquidated.

As the Germans start loosing the war, an order is made to sent all surviving jews to the most deadly Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz.

Shindler-list-killed-Jews-dead-bodies

Oscan Schindler (also known by all jews as the director), witnesses the jewish massacres and in being profoundly affected, makes full effort to convince the Nazis the his company jews are important as a workforce and he needs them to produce ammos and military weapons in order to make full profit.
He has to pay almost all his earned money in early prior war times and first 2 war years in order to ransom the jews and sents him to work in another established factory of his (he manages to convince Nazis that even children and handicapped are useful for his company thus managing to save a multitude of doomed innocent people. As the train carrying women and children is accidentally redirected to Auschwitz-Birkenau, Schindler bribes the commandant of Auschwitz with a bag of diamonds to win their release.

In his new factory Shindler forbids the SS guards to enter the factory and orders the production of ammos and weapons to be produced defective by his workers. Letting them to even to observe their Jewish Shabbath (Sabbath). In the next 7 months Shindler bribes multiple Nazi officials and runs out of money in 1945 exactly when the War in Europe is over with  Germany surrender. The SS Guards are being ordered to kill the Jews as the red-army is advancing and soon liberate the concentration camp, however Shindler succesfully convinces SS's to let Jews alive and go to their families and homes.

shindler-list-movie-jews-scene-with-a-young-kid

As a sign of thankstfullness his jewish workers give Schindler a signed statement attesting to his role saving Jewish lives, together with a ring engraved with a Talmudic quotation: "Whoever saves one life saves the world entire.". Schindler is deeply ashamed for not doing even more to save more Jews from extermination. Schindler has to flee the concentration camp to escape being killed by the approaching red-army. On next morning Soviet soldier comes and announces liberation of Jews. The evil Hitler follower Goeth is executed for his crimes against humanity and his unwillingness to refuse his Nazis ideas.

The movie is quite hard to grasp, so prepare for a lot of bloody scenes, nomatter that it is one of the best movies I've seen and has good spiritual elements. It is also good to see for it shows that the Good always triumphs victoriously over the evil.
Happy Watching!

Joomla 1.5 fix news css problem partial text (article text not completely showing in Joomla – Category Blog Layout problem)

Monday, October 20th, 2014

joomla-fix-weird-news-blog-article-text-incompletely-shown-category-blog-website-layout-problem

I’m still administrating some old archaic Joomla website built on top of Joomla 1.5. Recently there were some security issues with the website so I first tried using jupgrade (Upgrade Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5) plugin to try to resolve the issues. As there were issues with the upgrade, because of used template was not available for Joomla 2.5, I decided to continue using Joomla 1.5 and applied the Joomla 1.5 Security Patch. I also had to disable a couple of unused joomla components and the contact form in order to prevent spammers of randomly spamming through the joomla … the Joomla Security Scanner was mostly useful in order to fix the Joomla security holes ..

So far so good this Joomla solved security but just recently I was asked to add a new article the Joomla News section – (the news section is configure to serve as a mini site blog as there are only few articles added every few months). For my surprise all of a sudden the new joomla article text started displaying text and pictures partially. The weirdly looking newly added news looked very much like some kind of template or css problem. I tried debugging the html code but unfortunately my knowledge in CSS is not so much, so as a next step I tried to temper some settings from Joomla Administrator in hope that this would resolve the text which was appearing from article used to be cut even though the text I’ve placed in artcle seemed correctly formatted. I finally pissed off trying to solve the news section layout problem so looked online too see if anyone else didn’t stick out to same error and I stumbled on Joomla’s forum explaining the Category Blog Layout Problem

The solution to the Joomla incomplete text showing in article is – To go to Joomla administrator menus:

1. Menus -> Main Menu -> (Click on Menu Item(s) – Edit Menu Item(s)) button
2. Click on News (section)
In Parameters section (on the botton right) of screen you will see #Leading set to some low number for example it will be something like 8 or 9. The whole issue in my case was that I was trying to add more than 8 articles and I had a Leading set to 8 and in order to add more articles and keep proper leading I had to raise it to more. To prevent recent leading errors, I’ve raised the Leading to 100 like shown in below screenshot
joomla-blog-layout-basic-parameters-screenshot-fix-joomla-news-cut-text-problem-screenshot

After raising to some high number click Apply and you’re done your problem is solved 🙂
For those curious what the above settings from screenshot mean:

# Leading Articles -> This refers to the number of articles that are to be shown to the full width
# Intro Articles -> This refers to the number of articles that are not to be shown to full width
# Columns -> This refers to the number of columns in which the articles will be shown that are identified as #Intro. If #Intro is zero this setting has no effect
# Links -> Number of articles that are to be shown as links. The number of articles should exceed #leading + #Intro

N.B. Solving this issue took me quite a long time and it caused me a lot of attempts to resolve it. I tried creating the article from scratch, making copy from an old article etc. I even messed few of the news articles one time so badly that I had to recreate them from scratch, before doing any changes to obsolete joomlas always make database and file content backup otherwise you will end up like me in situation loosing 10 hours of your time ..

The bitter experiences once again with Joomla convinced me when I have time I have to migrate this Joomla CMS to WordPress. My so far experience with Joomla prooved to me just for one time the time and nerves spend to learn joomla and built a multi-lingual website with it as well as to administer it with joomla obscure and hard to cryptic interfaces and multiple security issues., makes this CMS completely unworthy to study or use, its hardness to upgrade from release to release, besides its much slow and its less plugins if compared to WordPress makes wordpress much better (and easier to build use platform than Joomla).
So if you happen to be in doubt where to use Joomla or a WordPress to build a new company / community website or a blog my humbe advise is – choose WordPress!

Useful VIM editor tip colorscheme evening – make your configurations look brighter in VI

Monday, February 24th, 2014

I just learned about cool VIM option from a collegue:

:colorscheme evening

What it does it makes configurations in vim edit look brighter like you seen in below screenshots.

– Before :colorscheme evening vim command

colorscheme_vim-linux-editor-options-screenshot

– After :colorscheme evening

colorscheme2_vim-linux-editor-options-screenshot

The option is really useful as often editing a config in vim on a random server is too dark and in order to read the config you have to strain your eyes in long term leading to eye damage.

Any other useful vim options, you use daily?
