Thanks for this. The critical step I was missing was #4.
If you’re using webmin, you can replace #2 and #3 with just disabling php5 and enabling suphp via Configure Apache Modules.
The test script (just ‘system(‘id’);’ in a php script?) is missing from the article. It must be owned by someone other than root, or suphp won’t touch it (running root scripts destroys the point of the module!)
