If you're on Linux the questions like, how can I convert between video and audio formats, how to do photo editing etc. etc. have always been a taugh question as with it's diversity Linux often allows too many ways to do the same things.
In the spirit of questioning I have been recently curious, how can a subtitles be added to a flash video (.flv) video?
After some research online I've come up with the below suggested solution which uses mplayer to do the flash inclusion of the subtitles file.
While including the subtitles to the .flv file, it's best to close up all the active browsers and if running something else on the desktop close it up. Note that above's mplayer example for (.srt and .sub) subtitle files example is only appropriate for a .flv movie files which already has a third party published subtitle files.
What is interesting is that often if you want to make custom subtitles to let's say a video downloaded from Youtube on Linux the mplayer way pointed above will be useless. Why?
Well the Linux programs that allows a user to add custom subtitles to a movie does not support the flv (flash video) file format.
My idea on how to create custom subtitles and embed them into a flv movie file is very simple and it goes like this:
1. Convert the .flv file format to let's say .avi or .mpeg 2. Use gnome-subitles or subtitleeditor to create the subtitles for the .avi or .mpeg file 3. Convert back the .avi/.mpeg file with included subtitles to .flv (flash video format)
This methodology is really long and time consuming, but pitily as far as my understanding goes it's the only way to do that on your Linux until now.
To make the conversations between .flv and .avi format you will need to use the ffmpeg – (FFMpeg command line tool video converter), here is how:
You will also have to spend some time to get to know gnome-subtitles or subtitleeditor, but it won't be that long until you get the idea on how to use them.
I’m still up here. On the New Year’s eve I was on a party more than 35 ppl were there. All kind of ppls fromMetalheads to Hip Hop maniacs, (ganja addicted) and ofcourse Ja (Rasta) fans. There was one boy who was keen on Free Software GPL etc. I realized I’m a real psycho after I started to convince him Windows and M$ products are much better than free software :]. Many people are using ThePiratebay to get all kind of data and share Movies, Games, Programs etc.)
ThePirateBay has become like a standard media for file sharing and still not many people are aware of who is behind ThePirateBay. This is why I thought, by posting this article I can "rant" on the existence of the Swedish Pirate Party The Pirate Party – Is a party fighting on behalf of information sharing freedom (or in other words a party fighting for our freedom as individuals in the digital era).
Pirate Party (Sweden) party official mascot
The Pirate party are swedish political party established in 2006, its members are activists lobbying on freedom of information as well as pointing at threats to our human freedoms imposed by new legislations and anti-freedom agreements like the recent ACTA treaty.
Since there creation in 2006, they have grown from a local Swedish party to an international party, locally existing in 33 countries arount the world. The ideology behind the Swedish PirateParty as well as the rest of existing Pirate Parties international is as I prior said Freedom of Information on the internet. PP is a party phenomenon, as they are neither a left or a right oriented party (on the traditional left-right scale). PP are independent bloc pursuing their political agenda colabborating with all mainstream parties, which stand behind the ideologies the party fights for.
After last European Parliament elections, PP received 7% of all Swedish votes for a country EU representative. As of today according to Wikipedia , the party holds 2 EU deputee seats in EU parliament.
I've a friend who is taking membership in the Pirate Party and from him I know the PP party are big supporters of Free Software.
One major key figure part of Pirate Party is the swedish Peter Sunde. He is a front person who is behind ThePirateBay project as well as holds a very interesting revolutionary ideas. Many of his ideas are close to "the father of all free software" – Richard Mathew Stallman (RMS). Therefore the PP would be probably of interest to anyone who is interested in Free Software. Here is an interview with Peter Sunde's taken in Cebit 2011:
As long as I know the Pirate Party are along the only few organizations in the whole world, who are trying to fight on behalf of human freedom.I'll be glad to hear if someone know about other ornigazations apart from Pirate Party the Free Software Foundation – (FSF) lobbying on present worsening conditions of invidual human freedom.
Here is few curious facts proving how BIG and important thepiratebay.org is, the text below is again quote from Wikipedia
Currently ThePirateBay.org is ranked as the 80th most visited website in the world and 20th in Sweden by Alexa Internet, has over 5.5 million registered users and, as of February 2012, hosts more than 4 million torrent files.
According to the Los Angeles Times, The Pirate Bay is "one of the world's largest facilitators of illegal downloading" and "the most visible member of a burgeoning international anti-copyright or pro-piracy movement"
As a Child I've been baptized in the Orthodox Church and since then I've been a complete atheist until the age of 21. What is the reason to get my faith in God in 21? This is a short post to shed some light on the great efforts of communism to erradicate faith in God in Communistic countries and change faith in God with faith in man and how this kind of approach devastates societies. During the communism it's a well known fact that communists, all the members in the Bulgarian Communist's Party (BCP),has led an anti Bulgarian Orthodox Church government politics. The fact that Communistic Governments are fighting Churches and faith in God is less known among youngesters and hardly known by people part of western democratic societies.
I did not lived this time myself, but I heard many stories about the stupidities of communism. Many older people say, when communism came to rule the Communist Government did immediately destroy some Orthodox Christian temples, some priests were convinced in crimes they were not responsible for etc… Other priests were send in the Concentration camps and many of them never returned in the society. "Access" to the Churches was limited and sometimes prohibited to the orthodox layman and often to clergy. During these terrible communism era, it was prohibited to everybody who is a member of BPC to attend Orthodox Church services or identify himself as christian in public. I've heard from my grandma an interesting story she witnessed, while she was working as a cleaner in the militia (police). Here is the story: One day my grandma wanted to go to the Church St. George located on the city centre of Dobrich city Bulgaria. A policeman stopped her when she was entering the temple and since he knew her as an employee in the police called her by name and told her that she is not allowed to enter the church building, because she is working in the police. My grandma asked the militiaman to let her enter the temple to pray for just few minutes and light up a candle (just for this time) without reporting for that in the police. The policeman agreed to let us in and keep silent that she entered the Church this time, but warned her that if he sees her another time entering the church he is going to report to the respective authorities. Another part of the Government active politics against the Bulgarian Orthodox Church was by placing an ex-criminals who were sentenced for thefts, rapings, agression or other crimes as a priests in the Church. By this move the supreme counsel of the bulgarian communist party wanted to break the people confidence in the Church as the true holy apostolic Church. The most fierce communists during these days did their best to present the church of God as a corrupted and void institution who only steals from people and exists only to deceive society. Yet many years after the fall of communism this people distrust in the church that communists sow through the years.
What is pity is even after the communism is gone for a long, time the churches are only full on biggest feasts and no more than 5% of the citizens are regularly going for Church service or have even the basic knowledge on the Church truths and mysteries. Following the fall of communism the democratic governments who come to power, elected in a citizen democratic elections did not do much to help the church either, some of them does lead politics openly hostile to our Bulgarian Church. The last government selected, seems to be less hostile to our Church, but people have once been cut away from the Church and now its really hard for our nation to get back to faith. The severe crisis (a word that means judgement in greek) and the hardships many people experience started to make some people rethink about what is the meaning of life and made them occasionally go back to faith of our fathers orthodoxy. What will happen further nobody knows, we need to pray and hope God will have mercy and people will repent for their sins and come back to faith again.
