NCR Criterion Series

NCR Criterion V-8570

All members of the Criterion series offer greater investment throughput for a complete information system. The NCR 8570 is a medium to large-scale, business oriented, informationNCR Criterion V-8570 processing system that continues the standard of measurement for EDP systems. The NCR 8570 combines technologically advanced hardware with sophisticated software for almost unlimited capabilities. Highly efficient software — COBOL 74 in a virtual storage environment — greatly increases the processing capabilities of all applications including data base management and telecommunications. Other compilers include the basic industry standards, COBOL and FORTRAN, and NCR entry level NEAT/3.

Executive software for the NCR 8570 incorporates a comprehensive range of operating systems, compilers, utility routines, and preprogrammed business applications. The operating systems combine advanced technology with computer-proven features and processing concepts, and minimize both programming and operating costs. They provide immediate, efficient utilization of the system in either transaction processing, multiprogramming, or batch environments.

Multiprogramming, online/real-time, and batch operating systems control the applications with efficiency and simplified resources management. Multiprogramming environment can handle multiple jobs with tasking and remote entry, transaction processing, and time-sharing. Online applications can operate more efficiently and can be geared to the inquiry/ response activity as it changes from hour to hour. Current programs can be enlarged and new jobs added for better utilization of the operating system.

Many applications and programs from the NCR Century library, and many programs written by NCR Century users, can be transferred directly to the NCR 8570 without recompiling, recoding, or restructuring files. Initial recompilation may be advantageous for some applications, while other applications may be recompiled at the user’s convenience.

The range of terminals available for the NCR 8570 is unparalleled in the information processing industry, and increase the total flexibility of the computer system. The units can be selected on their productivity/performance.

Criterion is a complete information processing series that sets the performance standards for all systems. The NCR 8570 embodies these standards for the advanced computer user, and offers still greater productivity/investment to meet specific requirements.
