GNOME allows integrated way to set a keys to kill
Xserver
Earlier I've blogged about an issue with the
Ctrl + Alt +
Backspace not working anymore with an article under the name
Alternative wayto kill X in Linux with Alt + Printscreen +
K
Just today while I was looking for a way to enable a key
combination to print out the Euro's sign I've come across of even a
better way to enable back the old way to Kill the XServer.
This way is very easy and is achieved directly through the GNOME
graphic interfaces.
To enable the
Ctrl Alt Backspace directly from the GNOME on
your Linux distro follow navigate to the following menus;
System -> Preferences -> Keyboard -> Layouts ->
Options
Therein you will notice in between the list with possible options a
line saying;
Key sequence to kill the X server
Press over it and tick over the
Control + Alt +
Backspace
That's it now after restarting GNOME the good old X kill
combination when pressing
Control + Alt + Bacspace will
start behaving like the old days.
This is much better than the newer key combination introduced in
the newer X.org's as of the newer ones to Kill X you need to press
the
Alt + PrtScr (PrintScreen) + K
That's very cool I was quite impressed with this new addition to
the Gnome keyboard settings, GNOME's developers has done a
wonderful job with it :)
