Few other plugins which I consequently found to be very handy are:

woopra – Shows you statistics about wordpress blog visitors
Tweet Old Post – Re-tweets old posts over a specified interval of time in twitter

P.S. Using Woopra plugin, requires registration in woopra.com.
After being registered the user gets an API key that needs to be filled in in Woopra’s Configuration Panel.

I came across a lot of posts on the internet about whether or not PPC affects SEO, but none on if SEO actually helps to cut PPC costs?

Although SEO can be done on your own, if you’re inexperienced it can be easy to make a mistake and hurt your rankings or waste your efforts on techniques that don’t really work.
The user is responsible in ensuring that keywords selected or
used do not violate Google’s requirements and applicable laws. Content is how search engines figure out the value of websites, and content is how those that search for content find your website and link to it.

I have heard that one should not have more than 20 plugins on a site as it slows down performance.   How many plugins would you recommend at most?

Headspace2 plugin is already obsolete, much better substitution is to just use SEO by Yoast (btw SEO by Yoast is much better than All in One SEO
